Restaurant Reference List

Here is an overall list of the restaurants I’ve had good/bad experiences with. Hopefully I will one day be able to review them all, but I still want people to be able to see (at a glance) the good/bad restaurants.

Please remember, each trip to a restaurant is different. Because I had a good/bad experience doesn’t mean everyone will have the same. A GF Menu does not mean the waiter understands what Gluten Free means or is able to convey to the chef the importance of avoiding cross contamination. Use common sense and trust your instincts.

If you have any questions about a specific restaurant, please feel free to email me.

:) Fireside Bar and Grille (Ambler, PA)
Awesome experience!  Wings (pan friend) and Nachos (supplied own chips) were delicious! I couldn’t get enough. Bring your own bread to enjoy the burgers or chicken. Wait staff was amazing.

:) Drafting Room (Ambler, PA)
Real meals or Nachos are the way to go here. Bring your own nachos from the Wawa down the street as their nacho chips are mixed corn/wheat. Waitresses are very friendly and willing to work with you. Double check everything though.
:) PF Changs
Always a treat to go, only downside is the line. Lettuce Wraps are a favorite for me and my gluten eating boyfriend.
:) Outback Steakhouse
Love the Ribs, Alice Springs Chicken, and the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under. I always get a sweet potato as an appetizer so my dinner company feels comfortable ordering an appetizer. The GF menu is wonderful – always leave room for dessert!
:( Chilis (State College, PA)
Even though the website boasted a GF menu, I found my trip here to be horrible. I had to fight with the waiter and manager to even care about my food allergies. It wasn’t until I stood to leave with my group of 4 that he even tried to find out if I could eat anything.
:) Maggiano’s Little Italy (King of Prussia, PA)
The have rice pasta here – were able to make me Chicken Cachatoire gluten free, and it was wonderful. Sous chef said he once made lasagna GF (using spiral rice noodles in layers). Keep an eye out for GF cookies on the dessert menu in the future!
:) Flannigan’s Boathouse (Conshohocken, PA)
They were very friendly here and tried to be helpful, but not a whole lot I could have. Burgers are okay (and delicious), as are mashed taters. Ribs are also GF. Not much else is though.
:( Champps Americana (King of Prussia, PA)
Very difficult to work with. Mashed potatoes have flour in them. Only thing GF are expensive entrees and buffalo wings (baked twice – make sure they don’t fry them)
:) Tangerine (Philadelphia, PA)
Tasted good, but I felt my menu options were bland compared to what everyone else was getting.
:) Budakkon (Atlantic City, PA)
The crab fried rice was delicious! GF entrees were a little boring but still tasty. The appetizers/side dishes had the best flavor. Also loved sweet mashed potatoes.
:) Pod (Philadelphia, PA)
The waitress was very knowledgable about gluten free and they had gluten free soy sauce available. I was able to enjoy the Macadamia Nut Chicken and Seafood fried rice (both delicious!). They would try to adapt anything on the menu to be Gluten Free, but some things were imposible – like the Crispy Duck.
:) Jules Thin Crust Pizza (Doylestown, PA)
I LOVE this pizza – although the toppings tend to be a little exotic for me.
:) Pizza by Elizabeths (Greenville, DE)
I don’t like the crust as much as Jules. I’ve made crust like this from scratch before.
:) Christopher’s (Wayne, PA)
Not a whole lot of options here for snacking, but when I called about dinner they said they could accomodate a GF diet and they do it often.
:) Pasta Pomodoro (Voorhees, NJ)
Amazing. GF garlic bread, pasta, pizza, cake, sandwiches, brownies, and pie. Owner has CD and has personally assured me of no worries on cross contamination.
:) Charlie Brown’s Steakhouse
Chain with a GF menu, definitely no complaints.
:( Bahama Breeze (King of Prussia)
Tasty drinks but call ahead to see if you can have anything other than fresh fish. The fish I had was fairly bland tasting. First time I went they said I could have the Chicken Kabobs, but second time they didn’t feel comfortable serving them to me.
:) JB Dawson’s
GF Menu – very delicious entrees. Limited menu. Definitely recommend.
Legal Sea Food
I have yet to go to the Legal Sea Food at King of Prussia, but they do have a GF Menu! Apparently you can get crispy entrees here, which is the closest I’ve seen to any place offering GF fried foods.
:) Uno’s Chicago Grill (Conshohocken, PA)
They have a GF menu, but it is difficult to follow and the wait staff is not knowledgable about gluten. Tasty (greasy) food here, but you need to keep on your toes.

My husband has just found out he is allergic to: gluten, wheat, soy, egg, corn, chicken and b. yeast. It wouldn’t be so bad just with the gluten because there is alot of stuff he can eat….but now since he is extremely allergic to soy…..alot of gluten free stuff has soy in it. Do you know of any resturants that have a menu that is also soy free.

    Thanks
